DICOUNTS ON CHILDREN’S RAILWAY:

Travel up to the age of 6 is free. Children ages from 6 up to 18 may purchase child tickets. For every adult over the age of 18, an adult ticket is required.

Dicounts

  • two pieces of single ticket are equivalent to one transfer ticket, but the transfer ticket is cheaper
  • The Daily ticket for families is the best choice for families and for small groups. These tickets may be used by a maximum of two adults and three children or one adult and four children travelling together. Only children aged between six and eighteen years count towards the number of children. Children less than six years old may travel free of charge.
    The daily ticket for families is valid for any number of journeys in any direction on the day of its purchase. In order to avoid misuse, the full name of one of the adult passengers is recorded on the ticket. These tickets are issued only at ticket offices of stations, they are not available from conductors.

Children's groups

For a group of children aged 6 to 18 (traveling with a child ticket), the adult group leaders may also purchase a child ticket depending on the number of children, as follows:

  • 10 children: 1 adult group leader
  • over 10 children: 2 adult group leaders
  • over 20 children: 3 adult group leaders
  • over 30 children: 4 adult group leaders
  • etc.

TAX number is a must

A cash payment invoice for train tickets can be requested at the station cash desks.

No other discounts

No other discount can be claimed on the Children’s Railway (e.g. student, retired, kindergarten, city passes, MÁV-START card). No group discount is available for groups of adults.

OTHER INFORMATION:

  • With single tickets stopovers are not allowed, tickets can be use only for one one-way journey.

  • A transfer ticket is valid for two journeys on the same day. You may get off the train at any station and get on another train for one more trip.

  • Tickets are valid on the date marked on them (date of purchase).

  • You may use the Family Ticket for unlimited journeys on the validity date.

  • Due to the fact that at the Children’s Railway the fares are collected by ten to fourteen year-old children, booking officers and conductors only accept cash in Hungarian forint. Foreign currencies, credit or debit cards, cheques and other types of cash saving methods are normally not accepted.

  • If possible, tickets must be purchased at the station’s ticket office before boarding the train. If there is no ticket office open at the station, tickets may be bought on the train without an additional fare. Opening hours of the ticket offices are displayed at the stations.

  • Folded baby carriages can be transported free of charge. It can placed only In the bicycle storage area of the carriages, subject to availability.

  • Bicycle transportation allowed only with the permission of the train crew! Bicycle ticket is required.

  • Dogs have to be muzzled and kept on a lead! Dog ticket is required.
